About This Group

Created to better support the Pagan and Metaphysical Podcasting Community, as well as the communities they serve, Proud Pagan Podcasting hopes to help promote the Voices of Our Community.<br /> <br /> All Members have agreed to a set of ethics, which I lovingly refer to as the "Don't make me look bad" clause. We are all free to speak our minds bluntly or sharply, however promoting blatantly illegal activities are prohibited and lead to expulsion.<br /> <br /> It is in the best interest of all members or impending members to respect such podcasting ethics. We must remember that this group's main purpose is to close the gaps between each other, whether Pagan or metaphysically inclined. Tolerating each other's differences is one thing, but accepting our differences and moving forward together is truly the goal we seek to gain. We as proud pagan podcasters are not proud for anyone other than ourselves and it is only born out of promoting and serving our communities.<br /> <br /> We endeavor to share and explore amoungst one another to further build lasting connections. We also as proud pagan podcasters share our sense of pride with our listeners, especially those unable to openly be who they are. If not only for those listeners' sakes but also our own, and the Future of OUR Community.<br /> <br /> Lamyka, founder of PPP<br /> <br /><br /> Proud Pagan Podcaster site:<br /> http://www.paganpodcasting.com/<br /> <br /> Proud Pagan Podcaster's Group on SETI@HOME:<br /> http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/team_display.php?teamid=125382

CA Wildfires PSA from Avalon Cares

    Dear Friends:

23 fires have charred more than 460,000 acres in California this month. More than 1,400 homes have been destroyed and at least 3 people that we know of have died.  At one point, almost 1 million people were under evacuation orders as several fires burned from the Mexican border to northern Los Angeles County.  Governor Schwarzenegger has declared a state of emergency.  Overnight Wednesday about 76,000 people were forced to stay in 42 shelters.  The number of people involved is similar to the Katrina hurricane disaster which Avalon Cares, the disaster relief arm of Officers of Avalon, helped with back in September 2005.

Many people have written in the past expressing concerns about large NGOs that have large overhead costs that eat up much of the money sent in.  Some have written to tell me that in the past, when they’ve tried to forward funds and goods from their organization’s fund raising efforts to Christian aid organizations, these things have been turned away as the recipients refused to accept anything from Pagans.  This is especially frustrating in light of several churches and government officials recently claiming that Pagans don’t do anything for their communities.

Officers of Avalon is an organization made up of Pagan emergency services personnel that is incorporated in Nevada and has 501 (c) status.  Avalon Cares is a relief fund created and run by our Chancellor General as part of our commitment to serve the community.   Officer of Avalon’s operating costs are modest and entirely covered by the dues of our members. None of the Grand Preceptory (our board of directors) receive remuneration of any sort for the work that we do for Officers of Avalon.  We’re all volunteers.  100% of the money collected by our Avalon Cares project is going to the relief effort.  We are endeavoring to give the funds collected directly to those who need them.

As our members are Pagan professionals in the emergency services, we've had a lot of people on the ground in the affected areas from the start.  I’m starting to get reports on what has been affected and where help might be needed.  I encourage you to do the same. If you know any one who has needs as a result of this disaster, please write to us and let us know.

Avalon Cares provided tens of thousands of dollars to the Katrina relief effort.
We were the first people into Prentiss,Mississippi with a convoy of relief supplies.  It was Avalon Cares that paid for replacement uniforms to be shipped to theNew Orleans police.  We’ve helped with lots of other little projects since then.  This is an opportunity for you to show the world what Pagans can do.  Projects like this show the world what Pagans are really like.

Once again, we’re showing the world what Pagans can do.
Yet we must stick with it.  We need you all to continue to donate what you can.  If you can’t donate money, donate your time to volunteer efforts.  Do your own fund raising events to help us in this disaster relief effort.  Open your doors to the displaced.  Give blood.  If you’re a Pagan in the emergency services or related fields, join us at Officers of Avalon and help us help Pagans.

    Recommended Reading Lists

Biting off a couple-thousand cubic meters at once (as usual), I have a proposal to make to the member shows of Proud Pagan Podcasters. I am hoping that this can prove to be a good resource for the online community that the PPP shows serve. Many of the online Pagan Reading Lists that I've seen so far are very vague about the Topic they are recommending books about, and often list very little material for each topic. Also, there seems to be little in the way of commentary about the suitability of each work, although there are a few who do get explicit about their reasons for making a particular recommendation (such as at http://macmorrighan.covenspace.com/blog/2007/06/07/strongly_recommended_reading_list). But I don't want to just grab-off somebody else's reasoning for this project.

I have created two new interrelated parts on the Down East Pagan website, at the following URLs:

    http://www.downeastpagan.com/reading/index.php
    http://www.downeastpagan.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=38

The two areas are linked back-and-forth to each other, and there is also a growing listing of book titles which have some (even if just tangentially, via a reference's bibliography pages) relevance to Religious, Spiritual and Philosophical areas of study, from the many and varied Pagan perspectives.

I also wish to put in links from any and all of the titles in the lists to any reviews which have been done by PPP podcasts, whether the link is to a transcript of the review or to the audio file for individual download.

Although my current web-hosting package is only for 1 gig of storage, it includes unlimited bandwidth (had over 11 gigs for June 07). If anybody would prefer to put the text of their reviews on my website, with proper reviewer credits and links back to the originating podcast's website, I can do this.

I have no pretensions to being all-knowing, so it is very likely that the sub-topics which I have already established under several of the Topics are in the wrong place. I have also listed possible sub-topics which I am totally uncertain about, and haven't made links out of yet.

As one example, Aidan, without doing some excavation work in my library, the only thing I could come up with for topics under Gnosticism is the new name of the fellowship you are with. I know that there are other topics and organizations within that area, but they don't make memory dredges for that deep an ocean (as my forgetfulness is).

Tommy, you once spent THREE episodes going over one single book! It's probably a safe bet that you have no desire to make a transcript of them. But a simple link, though . . .

I believe that a list of readings which is not static, only updated every few years as an afterthought, could well become a valuable and useful resource to the Pagan communities.
